Meusburger: E-Commerce Platform sets a new digital standard

The market leader in standard parts has been a pioneer in e-commerce for more than 20 years and now processes more than 53% of its orders through its store and digital service. With its digital share, Meusburger has long been one of the leading B2B e-commerce companies in Europe. In order to continue this success story, Meusburger, together with its strategic partners TOWA and Spryker, started to develop a future-oriented platform in 2021, which has now successfully gone online.

Meusburger offers its 24,000 customers a wide range of digital services. From the simple ordering of standard sheets to a customer portal and design and selection aids, unique solutions based on the most complex data and processes have been developed over the past 20 years. After a selection process, the go-ahead was given in 2021 with partners TOWA and Spryker. "We are proud to be a strategic partner of Meusburger and to have solved this unique technological challenge together with the Meusburger team. The mix of industry and digital is the best of both worlds", says Florian Wassel (CEO, TOWA).

The new technology platform from Spryker, a leading provider of B2B commerce platforms, is hosted in the cloud. The cloud technology is seamlessly integrated into Meusburger's system landscape and, thanks to its modular architecture, offers the greatest possible flexibility to meet future customer requirements. State-of-the-art technology meets modern methods and processes such as automated tests and deployments, as well as Scrum and an agile interdisciplinary team that included two teams from TOWA and almost all departments at Meusburger.

The first milestone of the project was reached in 2021, when the customer information system ("My Account") went live. Since then, more than 5 million receipts have been recorded, more than 500,000 quotes have been created and more than 1 million orders have been processed through the system. The second milestone followed in the fall of 2023. The store, with nearly 100,000 items for 24,000 customers in 77 countries and 7 languages, offers numerous functionalities for customers: From order processing, quote management, bill of materials, and complaint management to delivery tracking, ordering, and intelligent filtering and search options for toolmakers, buyers, and designers. It was therefore essential to incorporate the customer's perspective into the user-centered design through customer interviews, design sprints and regular usability checks by the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences.

Further milestones and optimizations are planned for 2024, as well as the expansion of the team in Wolfurt. The teams will work as hybrid teams and continue to combine the needs of the high-precision standard parts business with the modern methods of digital product development.
