Around 4,000 client advisors from over 60 banks and over 500 independent asset managers already use deritrade for their clients every day.
Since February 2018, we have been supporting the deritrade product team in improving the user experience. Based on user research and design thinking workshops, we accompanied the re-platforming of the deritrade platform as UX consultant and design partner.

Joint challenge
First of all, it was important to find out who the users of deritrade are and how they use the platform. In a two-day workshop with various participants from the financial sector, we were able to develop the most important personas. Several user journeys were derived from this, which showed the potential for improving the platform. The resulting user stories were prioritized in the same workshop and served as a guide for the project.
In the first step, we focused on the essential question: How can we make the platform's existing features more intuitive and build on learned behavior patterns?
Conception & structure of the extensive design system
In the course of improving the user interface, we created a modular design system with which ongoing improvements to the platform can be designed and tested more quickly, easily and cost-effectively.
Focus on mobile optimization
Due to the increasing number of mobile accesses to the platform, the new user interface has been optimized with a focus on the smaller screens of smartphones, tablets and laptops. This means that trades can be executed or monitored quickly and easily while on the move.

As part of the ongoing collaboration, we worked closely with the bank's internal product team to design the UI/UX and develop customer-facing websites with a focus on lead generation.

A strategy becomes reality

Strategy
At the start of the project, we had to discuss the platform's strategy with Vontobel. Where do we want to develop?

Research
The needs of the users were identified and analyzed in an extensive workshop. This resulted in the logical next steps for the platform.

Prototyping
The prototyping of the improvements and new features went hand in hand with the Vontobel product team. It was important to deliver results and obtain feedback at short and regular intervals.

UI Design
In order to apply Vontobel's new CI to the deritrade platform, we developed a modular design system that will also facilitate future developments.

User testing
With the help of click dummies and other prototypes, we were able to quickly gather user feedback and optimize the platform even before the features went live.

Development
During the development phase, we supported the deritrade product team with quality assurance. Regular testing and coordination with the development team helped us to do this.
