That was the Spryker Excite 2023

This year's Spryker Excite took place on 14 September at the Kulturbrauerei in Berlin. The event once again brought together the top representatives of the e-commerce industry, including developers, shop operators and partners, to network, exchange ideas and listen to the numerous presentations. We have summarised the most important highlights.

Insightful talks

The event began with a short warm-up, followed by the first keynote from Spryker CEO Boris Lockschin. In his talk, he gave an outlook on the future development of Spryker and Excite itself. It was emphasised that Excite is aiming for a broader focus in the future and would like to open up further to the entire e-commerce market, beyond the Spryker cooker. The long-term goal is to make Excite the most influential trade fair for digital commerce.

Of course, the topic of artificial intelligence in the field of digital commerce was not neglected. An insight was given into various aspects, from AI-supported product recommendations to improvements in customer support. Both current applications and future developments were highlighted.

Many new releases

This year's Excite was also used as an opportunity to present some new features. The most exciting new features for us are listed below.

Dynamic Multistore

Dynamic Multistore makes it easy to create and manage multiple online stores from one back office. The aim is to simplify the process of setting up and maintaining separate shops, each of which is tailored to different customer segments, regions or product categories.

Middleware with Alumio

Alumio is an iPaaS application that helps to connect multiple systems, SaaS applications, cloud apps or other data sources. This enables near real-time data exchange between the linked applications without the need for customised programming. Alumio already offers more than 75 standard integrations. This means that a seamless link between Spryker and other systems can be realised much more easily and quickly.

However, for particularly customised integration requirements, as required in most SAP applications, a direct connection to Spryker remains the best option.

Spryker ORYX

With Oryx, Spryker now also offers a library to implement headless solutions more easily and quickly. In contrast to many other solutions, however, no JavaScript library is used for this, instead web components and pure JavaScript are used as the basis. Developers who are already familiar with Spryker's architecture will find the transition easier, as Web Components have already been in use for some time.

ORYX not only offers seamless integration with Spryker, but also enables connection to a wide range of other services through the "composable commerce" approach. This "best-of-breed" concept opens up flexibility in the choice of tools and enables the use of customised software solutions for every requirement.

3 stages - more than 30 sessions

After an extensive lunch break, which was organised in the style of a street food festival, the next presentations began on three stages, each tailored to customers, partners and developers. In addition to the numerous presentations and case studies, there were also exciting discussion rounds in which international experts were on hand to answer questions.

Hackthon

One day before the actual conference, Spryker invited developers to their own offices to work on interesting ideas and try out new concepts away from the daily routine. The focus was on the new front-end framework ORYX, which was recently released.

After having breakfast together and getting to know each other, several teams from different departments were formed. The first step was to brainstorm possible solution strategies and ideas, which were then realised as prototypes.

And the results of the hackathon were really impressive. In less than a day, our team at Towa managed to create a prototype that transforms Spryker into a native desktop application. This allows customers to place orders directly via the app and continuously track the progress of their orders. The presentation of the project can be seen in this video.
